U.S. Youth, 16, Tied For First In Swiss Test
After 13 rounds of play, the incredible 16-year-old Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn is tied for first place in the important jubilee Chess Tournament in Zurich, Switzerland.
The tournament which includes five of the eight world title contenders has only two more rounds to go.
Both Soviet players, Mikhail Tal and Paul Keres, suffered losses in their 13th round of play.
Tal was defeated by Svetozar Gligoric of Yugoslavia.
Fischer, the United States champion, defeated Keres.
After surviving 10 rounds without a loss, Fischer met his first defeat in the 11th round to Gligoric on the black side of a Sicilian defense in 39 moves.
